My life
with dogs started at the moment I was born,
having grow up side-by-side with them.
Indeed many of my childhood memories are of
dogs. Since those times I have learned to
love and to admire these four legged
creatures. Why ? For their loyalty, for the
"ability" to follow their master to the end
of the world, to stay by their side whatever
happens without asking nothing in return. As
Erich Kastner said once : " The dog is
loyal when there is a storm, the humans not
even when there is wind" |

My
involvement with the Estrela Mountain Dog,
started in 1997, with one long-haired male.
These dogs had always fascinated me by their
size, their dignity - you have to see one,
to understand their "magnitude" . This male,
arrived at our house at the 16th of February
of 1997 after a long trip from the Estrela
Mountains. Soneca do Cântaro Magro is his
registration name. He is the main
responsible for our love for the Estrelas,
and have not stopped of suprised us
everyday. In 2002 we have registed our
kennel-name ( affix) in the FCI (
International Cynologic Federation ), the
same year that we bought our female Mara do
Cabeço do Seixo. To read more about my story

One of my
biggest love is to work with dogs. The
Estrelas was (and is) to independent to
make a good working-obedience dog. So, my
choice was the AST - a really versatible
breed, that can
do almost everything. So in the end of 2003
I started searching for a female AST. Ruca
joined us in February 2004. starting our
adventure in the breed |
|
Our goal is to
bred healthy typical dogs - in body and
mind. Our ideal Amstaff is one that is
athletic, not overdone in any point with a
strong working temperament, ready to please
their masters. Courage and balance are a
must!! |

We're
not really fan of dog-show, however we do
show our dog a couple a time a year, on the
most important dog-show. We also test them
for their character, as we believe that
brains are as important as beauty,
after all you will live 12year with the
dog's personallity! |
|
|
|
One of our
biggest concern is about their health, all
of our breeding dogs are health-tested and we
only bred dogs that are free of HD and EB! |
|
|
|
Our
dogs don't live 24hour in kennels but
instead with us, in our home as any family
member sharing our life and our
daily-shores. We do have kennels, where they
can spend some time when we have a female on
season or when we have canine-visitors. They
all live together with no problems. The
Estrelas watching our home (and our bed),
the AST by our side and the PP running wild! |

We -
Tiago and Nanci - do have 4 breeds
(Portuguese Pointer, Estrela Mountain Dog,
AST, Podengo) but keep in mind that insipte
of that fact we rarelly breed, which allows
us to give proper attention to each one of
us. And I must confess that I really have a
special care for the Rough Collie and the
Castro! |
|
|
|
We
rarely have a litter available and we only
breed max 1 or 2 litter per year so
that we can give proper are to all our
dogs/pups. We do not repeat litters.
Our females are only used once or
twice and we always kept one or two pup from each
litter.
We are very carefull when
choosing future owner of our pups. When
applying to one of our pups, please give us
as much information you can (where do you
live, why do you want a AST, how many dogs
do you own..). We hold the right to refuse
any aplication! |
